Bitten by my Neighbor's Dog. Should I sue?

|

Dog bites are commonly caused by dogs you know - your neighbor's dog, a relative's dog, or a friend's dog. If you get bit by your neighbor's dog, you may be hesitant to make an injury claim because you are concerned about harming your relationship with the neighbor. You may also be concerned that your neighbor will have to pay you out of their own pocket.

At our Santa Monica personal injury law firm, we often get inquiries by dog bite victims who suffered injuries, but are not sure whether to make a claim.

WILL MY NEIGHBOR HAVE TO PAY MONEY FROM HIS OWN POCKET IF I MAKE A DOG BITE CLAIM?

Provided your neighbor has insurance, his homeowner's or renter's insurance carrier will pay for your dog bite injuries.

WILL I RUIN MY RELATIONSHIP WITH MY NEIGHBOR IF I MAKE A DOG BITE CLAIM?

There is absolutely no reason why the relationship between you and your neighbor (or relative or friend) should be damaged if you make an injury claim. In fact, if your neighbor has any concern for you, then he should encourage you to seek compensation from his insurance company so that you don't end up out-of-pocket for your medical bills.

Being attacked by a dog can result in serious injuries and significant medical bills. Sometimes plastic surgery is necessary to lessen the scarring left by the attack. Sometimes a dog bite victim is so emotionally traumatized by the attack that psychotherapy is needed. The damage, physical, psychological, and financial, can be tremendous. You should not put concern about maintaining a good relationship with your neighbor above your absolute right to be compensated for your injuries.

If you have been the victim of a dog attack, speak with a Santa Monica personal injury attorney at McGee, Lerer and Associates to learn more about your rights. Consultations are free.
