A Glendale was resident was killed Wednesday in a three vehicle crash involving a tanker truck and semi truck on Highway 118.
The three-vehicle accident happened at about 11:45 a.m. 23-year-old Zareh Minasyan was westbound on Highway 118. According to witnesses, he was driving erratically and traveling at in excess of the speed limit on the roadway's shoulder, trying to pass other cars. Minasyan struck a guardrail on the right, then struck the rear of a big rig truck that was westbound on Highway 118, then veered into oncoming lanes and was hit by a tanker truck.
The tanker truck driver, 53-year-old Daniel Sanchez of Oxnard, saw the impact coming and unsuccessfully tried to avoid hitting Minasyan's car.
The impact between Minasyan's car and the tanker truck caused the car to burst into flames, which quickly engulfed the tanker truck. Sanchez was able to escape the tanker truck, suffering only minor injuries. The driver of the semi truck, 56-year-old David Arevalo of Moreno Valley, was not injured in the crash.
