A drunk driver struck and killed a 13-year-old Santa Monica boy early Sunday morning on the Pomona Freeway, then fled the scene.
The accident happened in Hacienda Heights about 12:40 a.m. 13-year-old Maximillion Infinity Petrakos and his mother, 41-year-old Mary Hively, were standing next to a disabled Toyota Corolla on the right shoulder of the Pomona Freeway. Petrakos was struck and killed by a 2012 Honda Civic heading westbound on the 60 Freeway. The Civic's driver drifted toward the right shoulder, struck the teenager and his mother, then fled the scene. Hively suffered major injuries. A 10-year-old boy inside the Corolla was also injured.
The Honda Civic driver fled the scene of the car crash. The driver was later identified as 28-year-old Tina Marie Silva of Hacienda Heights. A witness who followed Silva from the scene notified the police. Soon after the hit and run accident, Silva was arrested for suspicion of drunk driving and leaving the scene of an accident.
Petrakos was a student at Lincoln Middle School.
