An accident Tuesday morning in Manhattan Beach left two people dead.

The accident happened at 5:25 a.m. near the intersection of Eighth St. and Sepulveda Blvd. Daniel Matthew Linderman, a 41-year-old Torrance resident, was riding his motorcyce northbound on Sepulveda. He struck Ruby May Hixson, an 87-year-old pedestrian from Manhattan Beach. The motorcycle, a 2007 Kawasaki Ninja sport bike, landed on its side two blocks north of the collision.

Both the pedestrian and the cyclist were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are still investigating the cause of the accident.

According to voter records, Hixson's registered address is in the 1100 block of Sixth St., which is near the accident scene. It is not yet known if Hixson was in the unmarked crosswalk at Sixth St., or in the street or on the sidewalk when she was struck.

The area of Sepulveda Blvd. in Manhattan Beach where the accident happened has been the scene of many collisions. According the Manhattan Beach Police Officer Stephanie Martin, people often travel over the 35 mph posted speed limit at this location.
