An accident today in Santa Monica involving a motorcyclist and a vehicle left the motorcyclist dead.
The accident happened at about 1 p.m. on Pico Blvd., near 24th St. The accident happened in the 2500 block of Pico, between Cloverfield and 25th St. According to Santa Monica Police Department spokesman Sergeant Richard Lewis, the crash occurred between the Santa Monica Car Wash and Josie Restaurant.
The vehicle was occupied by two male Hispanics. Responding officers administered a field sobriety test on the driver of the car.
At this point in time, the accident is still under investigation. The police department is not yet reporting who was at fault for the accident. Based on a photograph taken at the scene of the accident, it appears that the motorcyclist, who was westbound on Pico Blvd., was struck by a mid-size sedan that was northbound on 24th St. The motorcyclist would have had the right-of-way and the driver of the vehicle would have had a stop sign.
