An elderly driver struck and injured a pedestrian today in Santa Monica.
The accident happened on Arizona Ave. near Second St. at about 1:45 p.m. Friday. An 89-year-old driver ran a red light and collided with another car at the intersection. The driver's car continued up onto the sidewalk and struck the pedestrian, who was on the sidewalk on Second St.
The pedestrian, a female in her 20's, was walking on the sidewalk on Arizona. The pedestrian went up onto the hood, then was thrown about 50 feet. The driver's car then slammed into a palm tree.
The pedestrian was conscious when paramedics arrived. She was transported to a local hospital. Her condition is not known.
According to Santa Monica Police Department public information officer Sergeant Richard Lewis, the accident was not a hit-and-run. The driver cooperated with investigating officers.
