Pedestrian Hit By Car Killed on PCH in Malibu

|

A pedestrian was struck by a car and killed on Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu on Sunday November 9th.

The accident happened at 6:20 p.m. The pedestrian, 70-year-old Douglas Naylor, a Port Hueneme resident, was crossing PCH from north to south. The car was traveling westbound on Pacific Coast Highway, toward Las Flores Canyon Rd. The car was in the number one lane (lane closest to the center) when it struck Naylor.

Naylor was airlifted to UCLA Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver, a 40-year-old male, stopped and cooperated with law enforcement from the Malibu/Host Hills Sheriff Station. According to law enforcement, alcohol and speed are not suspected factors in the collision.

Pedestrian accidents are all too common on Pacific Coast Highway. Cars are moving fast on the roadway and it is difficult for pedestrians intending to cross the highway to gauge whether they can safely make it across. Concerned community members have asked Caltrans to reduce the speed limit on PCH. They have also asked Caltrans to install more "Watch for Pedestrians" signs and "No Pedestrian Crossing" signs.
