A 9-year-old female pedestrian was struck by a car at Los Angeles International Airport on Sunday and suffered critical injuries.
The accident happened about 4:50 p.m. at the upper departure level of Terminal 7, which services United Airlines and United Express. A Porsche crashed into the outside wall of a "utility room." Before hitting the wall, the car struck the pedestrian.
The girl was transported to a trauma center in critical condition. According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, the driver and passenger of the Porsche were also taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
Anyone who has dropped off or picked up fliers at LAX knows what a chaotic scene it can be:
- Drivers of cars, busses and shuttles circling around the horseshoe-shaped roadways and swerving left and right
- Slow-moving motorists hug the curb, scanning for their just-landed passengers
- Pedestrians darting in and out of traffic lanes
