Just after midnight on Sunday, an 18-year-old woman who was attempting to cross PCH, near Mussel Cove in Orange County, was struck by a car and killed.
According to Lt. Roland Chacon of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, the 18-year-old and her friend stepped in front of the car. The friend was not hit by the vehicle, a 2002 Mercedes SUV.
The driver of the SUV, a 17-year-old female, stopped immediately after the accident and called police. The driver and her friend waited at the scene while paramedics transported the victim to Mission Hospital, where the pedestrian was pronounced dead.
The SUV’s driver was not arrested or cited in the crash. Sheriff Chacon said their appeared to be “nothing unusual with the driving, no suspicious circumstances.”
A tragic end to a young life, and a reminder about the vulnerability of pedestrians when on the roadway.
