A bicyclist was fatally struck by a hit-and-run driver on Friday in Los Angeles.
The accident happened at about 8:50 a.m. The bicyclist and driver were traveling westbound on East 43rd St., near the 900 block. A red late-model pickup truck struck the bicyclist, who was described by the Los Angeles Police Department as a Latino in his 20s or 30s. After hitting the bicyclist, the driver fled the scene, never stopping to render aid. According to police, the bed of the pickup truck may have been carrying gardening tools.
Police are seeking the public's help to identify the driver of the hit-and-run vehicle.
"Passing-from-behind accidents," when a motorist approaching a bicyclist from behind strikes the bicyclist as the motorist overtakes the rider, are one of the most common causes of bicycle accidents, and the number one cause of adult bicyclist fatalities in California.
