A large dog escaped its fenced yard on Tuesday and seriously injured a mother and child in Moreno Valley.
The dog attack happened at about 11:40 a.m. near the intersection of Indian Ave. and Myers Ave. A mother was pushing her baby in a stroller and walking with her 6-year-old son. The dog, a 120-pound bull mastiff, escaped its fenced yard and attacked the mother and 6-year-old.
Both victims sustained serious dog bite wounds. Part of the boy's ear was torn off and he suffered a scalp wound. His mother suffered bite wounds to the leg. The baby was not injured. The mother and son were transported to a local hospital.
The dog was seized by the Moreno Valley Animal Control Services and will likely be euthanized.
Under California law, a dog owner is strictly liable for any injuries caused by the dog. The dog owner's homeowner's or renter's insurance would be on the hook to pay any damages owing by the dog owner.
