A chain reaction rear-end collision involving four big rigs happened in Gorman on Tuesday.
The accident occurred about 1:30 a.m. on the northbound 5 (Golden State) Freeway, just north of State Route 138 in Kern County.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a big rig was slowing when another big rig slammed into its rear, followed by the two other big rigs slamming into them.
At least one of the drivers was injured. He was airlifted to Henry Mayo Hospital and was reported to have suffered severe leg injuries.
Three of the four big rigs were carrying steel beams and furniture. One of the big rigs jackknifed and the steel beams it was carrying slammed through the cab of another big rig.
