A two-vehicle accident in Lancaster left three people dead and three people injured.
The accident happened on Friday at about 6:10 p.m. at the intersection of Avenue K and 25th West. The collision involved a Dodge Ram pickup truck which was traveling southbound and a Jeep Cherokee which was travelling eastbound. The pickup apparently turned left in front of the approaching Jeep. The vehicles T-boned. The Jeep was reportedly traveling in excess of 80 mph in a 50 mph zone.
According to neighbors, the force of the collision caused the Jeep to flip and strike a utility pole and a tree. Five people were in the Jeep. Some of the Jeep's occupants were ejected.
Two victims were pronounced dead at the scene of the car accident. The third died at the hospital. The three killed were a male adult, a female adult, and a male teenager. Four people were ejected from the Jeep. It is being reported that none were wearing seatbelts. Two other people were transported to the hospital in unknown condition.
According to authorities, the pickup truck's driver suffered minor injuries. The pickup truck sustained damage to its front-end.
The cause of the collision is still under investigation. It has not yet been reported by investigating officers whether drugs or alcohol were involved.
According to Lancaster resident Jason Larimore, the intersection is the scene of frequent accidents because of a blind corner. Drivers are said to often exceed the posted 50 mph speed limit.
The names of the victims have not been released.
