The number of hit and run crashes in Los Angeles County is climbing, especially hit and run accidents involving motorists hitting bicyclists. Every year, 7,500 people in Los Angeles are killed or injured.
The Los Angeles Police Department is launching a new public service campaign to raise awareness about the problem. Through a series of billboards and posters, the campaign will remind drivers to obey the rules of the road. The campaign will appeal to people's sense of decency and ask people to stop if they hit someone.
Our personal injury law firm has experienced an alarming increase in the number of calls we receive from hit and run victims or their families. These cases are particularly tragic when we have to tell the victim or family that there is nothing we can do for them if the hit and run driver was never identified, or if the victim had no uninsured motorist coverage on their own car insurance policy.
We STRONGLY recommend that every driver carry uninsured motorist coverage of AT LEAST $100,000 per person/$300,000 per accident. Even better: $250,000 per person/$500,000 per accident. Because of the high incidence of hit and run accidents, this coverage is absolutely necessary. It is the only way you can protect yourself in case you or your child becomes the future victim of a hit and run driver.
