The 405: Traffic, Crashes, and Looky-Loos

|

Interstate 405: The 72.41-mile freeway connecting the San Fernando Valley to Irvine is one of the most prominent in the area and is commonly known for multiple problems.

In the rush hours, the traffic can be dreadful.

There are countless crashes on the interstate.

And when crashes occur, looky-loos take their time to pass by and see what happened, creating even further dangers. It doesn’t even need to be a crash; looky-loos will slow down for almost anything that catches their attention.

Unfortunately, these problems have a long history of causing large crashes involving vehicles, motorcyclists, and commercial trucks alike. If you take a brief look at the 405, you can see how many shutdowns occur because of crashes.

History of Problems On the Interstate

  • In October of last year, a bus crashed in North Hills on interstate 405, resulting in 25 people being hospitalized.
  • In April of last year, a big rig caught fire after a crash on the 405. Three individuals suffered injuries.
  • In December of 2017, a Los Angeles police officer was injured in one of two crashes that night when a drunk driver struck the officer who was performing a traffic stop.

Even on March 10 of this year, there was a large portion of the freeway closed after a large tanker truck carrying 9,000 gallons of propane overturned. Though no explosions occurred, it shows just how dangerous the interstate can be and how a sudden incident can create additional problems.

What to Do If You’ve Been Injured

Interstate 405 is one of the most dangerous in Los Angeles and Orange County. There are a lot of negligent drivers who are unaware of how to operate their vehicles in high-trafficked areas. As a result, people suffer significant injuries and legal matters ensue.

At McGee Lerer, we’ve seen a number of crashes occur on the 405 as a result of reckless actions, including the following:

  • Texting while driving
  • Drunk driving
  • Unnecessary braking
  • Fatigued driving
  • Speeding

When any of these actions result in injuries, those who have been harmed can file an injury claim against the responsible party. Our Santa Monica car accident attorneys are here to help.
